Artist Kim LaPlant, a blonde woman wearing a red headscarf and poppy jewelry

Kim LaPlant

OzarkHippie is my artist name, since my aunt used to call me that in the Ozarks when I was a kid and it stuck. I moved to Eastern Oregon in 1993 From Arkansas (Deep in the Ozarks) Although I've been here 34 year's this year,  I'm still a ozark girl. I raise Rescue animals with the hubby or 23 year's. I'm a Grandma, A mama, a wife and friend. I garden, build sculptures, Paint, carve, create out of just about anything.  My mediums vary from Watercolor, Oil, Acrylic, Glazes of all kinds, mixed media. Wood, cardboard sculptures to 10 feet wooden Feather sculptures. I love colors, and materials, letting each piece develop its own personality. My daddy and I went to the dump when I was 8 and we found a set of oil pencils and I was hooked! The picture of the lil kids and the wooden piece with a house drawn on it was my first real piece.

Teaching and sharing creativity have also become an important part of my journey. I believe art is a common language that brings people together, regardless of age, background, or ability.

I hope to encourage others to embrace their imagination, get their hands messy, and discover the joy of creating something uniquely their own.
